ASSIGNMENT FIVE: RESTAURANT MENU
CREATIVE CLASS: ASSIGNMENTS TO HELP CONSTRUCT A POWERFUL PORTFOLIO
FRAGRANCE ADVERTORIAL: ASSIGNMENT FIVE
A Menu for a Spicy Restaurant
This is a restaurant menu cover and the client wants it to be “HOT HOT HOT” – also the tagline of his restaurant. The food is Tex-Mex and Thai combined in exciting new dishes that are heavy on spice, and a bit hot.
The menu is in portrait configuration and full color.
You have the option of deciding whether you want to shoot food, product, or people, but the idea is that you make the shot you want.
Ideas:
Spicy Chili / Shrimp
Cooks ‘on fire’
Patrons showing ‘the heat’
TexMex dishes with chopsticks
A Cambodian “Cowboy”
A mixture of Cambodian Asian style food and traditional TexMex
Cultural Icons showing the blend
Firefighting gear and food
Make this a fun, slightly whimsical cover shot.
Lighting could include some smoke or ‘smoky’ atmosphere. Use backlight to enhance the smoke if needed.
If you are wondering about how other photographers have shot spicy food… well… here you go.
This is a portfolio shot… make it count. Please sketch ideas, plan the shoot, and execute with precision.
Please be prepared to tell me how much you would have billed for this shot.
Assignment:

- The image must work for a verticle cover (9×12, 8×10 etc…).
- Create a menu at GPT or use the one I created below
- Design the backside of the menu with a photograph and the text.
