ASSIGNMENT SIXTEEN: POINT OF PURCHASE DISPLAY
CREATIVE CLASS: ASSIGNMENTS TO HELP CONSTRUCT A POWERFUL PORTFOLIO
BOUTIQUE SEED COMPANY POINT OF PURCHASE
ASSIGNMENT: POINT OF PURCHASE FOR A BOUTIQUE SEED STORE
The POP should be 36 tall and 24 wide… a portrait layout.
The images can be of three varieties:
1. An absolutely astounding garden. And please be discerning with this. It has to be amazing. And it has to have a person in the shot to offset the idea of the ‘power’ as being the person behind the garden. A garden portrait with the garden as the most important part of the image.
2. Gardening Tools in a still-life scene. Not a boring product shot, make it lovely with props and styling. And it MUST contain a root of some sort as the hero. Any kind of root that you can get from Home Depot or the like. For our purposes, it can also be a bulb.
3. A gardener… from mild to wild. Can you see this as a fashion shot? I can. Could it be a humorous play with two “character actors”? Absolutely. Could it be mysterious, fun, whimsical, serious? Yes… all of those. And hopefully, there is either a gardening implement or a root in the shot… we have to SELL this idea.
Most importantly it must be YOURS.
This image is going to be large, so it can have some lovely details in it, but also because it is large it cannot be too “busy”. This is a ‘walk a fine line’ assignment.
The Lifecycle Layout
Create a visual timeline showing the progression from seeds to sprouts, then young plants, and finally a fully mature plant. Arrange this sequence on a rustic wooden table, symbolizing growth and development, with a focus on the seed packets at the start.
Garden Toolkit
Arrange a flat bed that includes the boutique seeds, gardening tools (like trowels and pruners), soil, and small clay pots. This could be set on an earthy, stone surface to emphasize a hands-on gardening theme, inviting customers to imagine starting their own garden.
Raindrops and Seeds
Capture seeds and small plants on a reflective surface with simulated raindrops. This adds a fresh and invigorating element, suggesting vitality and the importance of water in gardening. Utilize macro photography to highlight the texture of the seeds and water droplets.
Seasonal Seeds
Display a variety of seeds that are grouped by planting season. Use natural materials like wood, stone, and soil to create distinct backgrounds for each group, indicating the best season to plant them. This could educate and attract customers looking for year-round gardening options.
From Seed to Plate
Show a connection between the seeds and the end product, like vegetables or flowers. Start with the seed packets, include mid-growth plants, and end with the harvested product arranged beautifully on a garden table, perhaps with some gardening gloves and a hat to set the scene.
Artistic Seed Patterns
Create artistic patterns and designs using different seeds directly on a smooth, dark soil background. This can be a top-down shot that plays with colors and textures of various seeds, forming a visually appealing mosaic that draws the eye and highlights the variety of seeds offered.
