RECAP AND REVIEW

MODULES ONE THRU SIX RECAP AND REVIEW

RECAP AND REVIEW MODULE ONE THRU SIX

LET’S TAKE A MOMENT TO LOOK AT WHERE WE ARE – AND WHERE WE NEED TO GO.

Portfolio Pieces:

You should have at least 6 – 10 pieces of completed work. I hope you are sharing the work on the Facebook Page.

Remember to tag me on your post and I will take a look.

The first four modules are a deep dive into the business aspect of being a solopreneur, and we are in the middle of the photography modules.

I hope you have spent time learning the software I suggested you learn.

THE FIRST FOUR MODULES:

Those were designed to introduce you to the idea of becoming a multi-media creator. It is important to understand the demands on us as creatives, and those four modules were designed to get us ready to create the work.

They are the heaviest in the course, and ones you will return to again and again.

We are in the photographic-centric set now.

IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND:

We are not looking to make you world-class designers. I hear that so often from people who are experienced graphic designers; “You cannot be a great designer if you are using Canva. You must use a more professional design system.”

And while there is some truth there, the bottom line is we are not trying to make you world-class designers, we are endeavoring to make you competent and well-paid designers for the 90% of clients who do not NEED world-class design, nor would they want what comes along with that.

REVIEW YOUR PROGRESS SO FAR

PHOTOGRAPHIC

What you should be able to do at this point:

Color correct the image.
Match color image to image.
Sharpen the image.
Denoise or add noise to the image.
Color grade the image.
Crop to a variety of configurations
Use filters to create a mood.

GRAPHIC

What you should be able to do at this point:

Create a simple layout.
Move type around.
Make a graphic with a headline.
Create a basic presentation deck.
Know how to use Canva or Express templates.
Create a basic publication.
Design a postcard.

MOTION

What you should be able to do at this point.

Make a short video clip (phone is fine).
Edit the clip for length.
Color grade the clip.
Add a clip to a series.
Add motion to the clip (titles etc…)
Add music to the clip.
A stop motion GIF.

If you are not up to speed with the above list, take a breather and work on those skills.

I do not care if the work ends up being amazing, but I do want you to be able to DO the processes.

Here are this week’s base assignments:

1. Create a pitch deck for a startup: 8 slides. Do the photography, modify them to be more in keeping with the startup strategy. Use Canva, Adobe Express, PowerPoint, Keynote, Google, or whatever software you use the most.

2. Create an 8 page eBook of the same material.

3. Design an Instagram Story to show the work.

ALTERNATE SET OF ASSIGNMENTS:

1. Create a pitch deck for your business. It should introduce possible clients to your way of working. Feature the work you have done so far, and embed it into your website, or LinkedIn profile, or blog.

2. Create an 8-page eBook of the same material, and offer the PDF on your website for client download.

3. Create an Instagram story introducing your new skill set and offerings to your followers. Use the images as an IG story, IG posts, and about a month out, animate them in a video and offer it as an Instagram Reel.

4. Assemble your completed assignments and add them to your website. You do not have to make them visible yet if you feel they are not ready, but get them on to a private page so you can share them. Drop me a link and I’ll take a look as well.

Focus on creating a killer Pitch Deck for your business.

Show off your photography, motion, and any design work you have completed in the modules. This is a terrific way to build your skills and create something for your own business.

Embed it into your secret webpage and I’ll take a look.
